Bugsy Malone Film Review By Muhammad Patel

Bugsy Malone Film Review

Starring: Scott Baio, Jodie Foster, Florrie Dugger, John Cassisi
Director: Alan Parker
Rating: 3/5

Dandy Dan: “Okay fellas, this is our moment. Keep a cool head and keep those fingers pumpin', 'cause remember, it's history you'll be writin'.”

It was history that was made when Alan Parker created this infectious musical, mobster movie. The cast of young teenagers is headed up by the talented Scott Baio who plays the title character of a child gangster in a mythical prohibition era America. The story follows a gang war between Fat Sam (John Cassisi) and Dandy Dan (Martin Lev) as all parties involved get pie-eyed as a new weapon is released onto the streets, a SPLURGE gun.

What makes the film so unique to me is that all the characters are played by children, it brings together all those dreams I had when I was younger to become a star and sing my way into fits of happiness and nostalgia.

My most memorable character is Tallulah played maturely by a young Jodie Foster who delivers an exceptional performance as a singer in Fat Sam’s speak easy, she is able to add dimension to a character and throughout the film acted older than her years.

I will enjoy watching this film for many years to come and every time will still cringe when Jodie Foster’s character Tallulah tells all the men that they “don’t have to be lonely.”
