On Saturday March the 28th, at least one corner of London was so bright it had to wear shades! This was thanks to dozens of ourFILMCLUB Star school leaders and more than a sprinkling of young Sparks making their way to London’s Movieum on the South Bank from all across the country.
The day was designed to celebrate all the schools who became Stars earlier this year, as well as the FILMCLUB members who became Sparks due to having at one time or another been named our Reviewer of the Week.
For the Stars, the day kicked off with coffee and a discussion about films and FILMCLUB hosted by our very own Schools Support Director, Sabrina Broadbent. This led into lunch, with yet more discussion (because we all know how teachers love to chat!) which was then followed by a screening of the Palme D’Or winning movieThe Class.
The day was rounded off with the Stars meeting one of FILMCLUB’s co-founders, director Beeban Kidron. Commenting on the day, Rosie Adams of The Graham School in Scarborough said that it provided her with “lots to think about and I can go back with fresh impetus. It was nice to have our efforts recognised.”
The Sparks meanwhile busied themselves with a screening of the classic Powell and Pressburger film The Red Shoes, which was followed by lunch and a review-writing workshop with top film critics Danny Leigh and Xan Brooks. After also getting to meet Beeban Kidron, they were then treated to a tour around The Movieum that gave them the chance to find out loads about the film industry while getting to see the actual props used in films like Superman and Star Wars!
Annie Lishman from Newport Primary said that her favourite part of the day was “all of it!” – that’s what we like to hear, Annie!
All in all, there were many exhausted but happy faces to be seen, and here at FILMCLUB we want to thank all of you who came for making it such a great, movie-mad day!
